Rheumatology and Medical Weight Management

Weight Management Designed for Patients With Arthritis and Autoimmune Disease
Weight can affect joint pain, mobility, inflammation and overall health. At CORE, we combine rheumatology and medical weight management to address the unique challenges faced by patients with arthritis, autoimmune disease, chronic pain and limited mobility.

Our goal is not simply weight loss. We develop an individualized plan that supports joint health, physical function and long-term well-being while coordinating care with each patient’s rheumatology treatment.

A Personalized Medical Approach

Depending on your health history and needs, your care plan may include:

• Medical evaluation of weight-related health risks
• Lifestyle guidance
• Movement recommendations adapted for joint pain or limited mobility
• Prescription weight-management medication when medically appropriate
• Ongoing monitoring and adjustment of treatment
• Coordination with your rheumatology and primary-care teams

Weight-management treatment does not replace medical care for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus or other rheumatic diseases.

Why Does Weight Matter in Rheumatology?

Excess weight can place additional stress on painful joints and make physical activity more difficult. It may also contribute to inflammation and affect symptoms, function and response to treatment in some rheumatic conditions. Even modest, sustainable weight loss may improve mobility and reduce strain on weight-bearing joints.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can weight loss improve arthritis symptoms?
Weight loss may reduce pressure on the knees, hips, feet and spine and can improve mobility for some patients. Results vary according to the type of arthritis and each patient’s overall health.
Do you prescribe weight-loss medications?
Prescription weight-management medications may be considered after a medical evaluation. Treatment depends on your medical history, current medications, weight-related conditions, potential risks and insurance coverage.
Can I exercise if my joints hurt?
Yes, but the plan may need to be modified. We can recommend joint-friendly movement based on your symptoms, mobility and rheumatologic condition.
Is obesity treatment a substitute for rheumatology care?
No. Medical weight management complements—but does not replace—appropriate treatment for arthritis or autoimmune disease.
